Key Responsibilities:

Strategic and Cultural Leadership

  • Define and advocate for the company's safety vision, objectives, and strategies to cultivate a culture of safety excellence.
  • Guide safety business planning initiatives, aligning safety efforts with corporate objectives.
  • Drive the creation and execution of comprehensive safety and health strategies, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Enforce client safety standards and executive expectations, acting as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities on safety issues.
  • Establish a National Peer Group with other leading safety professionals to continuously enhance safety culture and initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of care and safety-first mindset where all employees are empowered to address safety concerns.

Talent Management and Development

  • Support Division Safety Managers in building local communities of practice within their divisions and externally with like-minded organizations.
  • Drive accountability among safety managers and administrators to achieve safety program goals and compliance.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, empowering direct reports to advance safety initiatives and meet organizational objectives.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments and provide constructive feedback to improve team effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with division leadership to develop succession plans and talent pipelines for safety leadership roles.
  • Mentor and train safety personnel, promoting a culture of continuous learning within the safety department.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to create effective recruiting programs to ensure a strong talent pipeline.

Program Management

  • Oversee all facets of safety program management across multiple fabrication and construction sites, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess safety performance, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise on safety policies and programs, conducting training sessions to enhance safety awareness.
  • Facilitate the sharing of safety resources throughout the organization.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry best practices, collaborating with stakeholders to implement effective safety measures.

Incident Management

  • Lead incident management efforts, ensuring thorough investigations, root cause analyses, regulatory reporting, and effective sharing of lessons learned.
  • Exhibit strong investigative skills to identify root causes and areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and proactively address challenges.
  • Continuously seek tools and tactics to enhance safety approaches and collaborate with operations and engineering teams to design safer work methods.
  • Manage workers' compensation and insurance efforts, ensuring effective claims management and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Represent the organization in legal proceedings related to safety incidents, fostering strong partnerships with legal and human resources teams.

Qualifications:

  • Progressive experience in managing safety programs on large-scale construction or similar job sites.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and other regulatory standards related to construction.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey safety policies.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing internal staff and third-party consultants.
  • Experience working with union contractors and managing safety programs in collaboration with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
