The Senior Packaging Specialist will report to the Senior Director of Manufacturing & Quality and will serve as the internal authority on all packaging-related initiatives and responsibilities.
In this role, you will be a vital member of a team dedicated to quality, procurement, innovation, efficiency, and cost-saving strategies.
This position is inherently cross-functional, collaborating closely with internal teams such as Quality & Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Innovation, Marketing, Sales, and Finance, as well as various external co-packing and repacking partners throughout the United States.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of this position include being the internal authority on all packaging-related issues.
Packaging Quality and Specifications- Lead the qualification of packaging materials and assist the Manufacturing & Quality Departments during vendor quality audits.
- Identify and resolve packaging material complaints and issues as necessary.
- Coordinate testing as needed at third-party laboratories or co-packing partners.
- Develop and maintain Packaging Material Specifications and documentation for assigned projects.
- Create and uphold packaging test methods and operational procedures.
- Thoroughly investigate packaging material deficiencies, devise corrective actions, and ensure their implementation.
- Act as the primary technical contact for packaging material vendors (e.g., cartons, corrugate, aluminum cans).
- Support Sourcing, Innovation, and Supply Chain efforts to ensure supply continuity and risk management by contributing to the RFP process and conducting new vendor qualifications.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating potential suppliers.
- Develop quality scorecards for each packaging vendor.
- Collaborate with the innovation team to oversee the development and commercialization of new packaging materials, technologies, and systems.
- Support the network of external, third-party primary fillers/co-packers nationwide with packaging and equipment-related issues.
- Lead the commissioning and provide ongoing support for repacking partners.
- Identify opportunities for capital improvement projects at third parties and lead these initiatives.
- Identify and implement Gross Margin improvement opportunities related to packaging materials and operations.
- Understand the performance versus cost implications of packaging materials and identify alternatives.
- Stay updated on new technologies through networking, trade shows, and professional organizations.
- Identify and leverage new packaging technologies to gain competitive advantages and enhance consumer experience.
- Lead sustainable packaging initiatives and customer scorecard requirements.
- Effective participation in cross-functional teams.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external teams.

- Bachelor of Science in Packaging/Packaging Science or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in the beverage industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of packaging materials, including aluminum cans, labels, corrugated cartons, paperboard cartons, adhesives, and stretch film, with a focus on aluminum can experience.
- Experience with various high-speed beverage packaging equipment such as de-palletizers, rinsers, fillers, pasteurizers, labelers, case packers, and palletizers.
Approximately 25% travel may be required.
