Gas Controller

Overview

This role entails the continuous oversight and management of the company's pipeline infrastructure. The Gas Controller will ensure the regulation of gas volumes and pressures, prioritizing safety, reliability, and efficiency. The position is crucial in meeting customer demands, adhering to regulatory standards, and aligning with company policies. The goal is to optimize throughput while minimizing fuel consumption, ensuring flexibility and reliability in operations.

Key Responsibilities

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging in the planning, scheduling, and execution of facility operations, including shutdowns and startups to maintain system pressure and volume.
  • Starting and stopping engines to regulate system volume and pressure effectively.
  • Loading engines and balancing horsepower to ensure efficient system operation.
  • Setting operational pressure and volume thresholds for station operators and SCADA systems.
  • Anticipating demand fluctuations based on temperature and time factors.
  • Injecting and withdrawing gas from storage facilities to maintain supply equilibrium.
  • Preventing transportation volume losses due to dispatcher decisions.
  • Monitoring the system through SCADA alarms, computer interfaces, and communication to ensure timely operational adjustments or repairs.
  • Balancing horsepower requirements with system load effectively.
  • Implementing necessary operational changes in response to engine shutdowns or supply disruptions.
  • Following established protocols in the Emergency Plan and Preparedness Manual during critical situations.
  • Complying with all Control Room Management (CRM) policies and procedures as mandated by regulatory authorities.
  • Handling incoming communications, coordinating with other pipeline entities, and notifying relevant personnel for specific operational scenarios.
  • Documenting all pressures and volumes reported by field personnel or SCADA on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring daily reports are accurate and clearly presented.
  • Maintaining organized and up-to-date files and records in accordance with departmental and company standards.
  • Observing all administrative policies diligently.
  • Completing all Operator Qualification tasks within the designated timeframe.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Entry-level experience in a related field.
  • Proficient in managing various customer interactions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization.
  • Basic understanding of pipeline hydraulics.
  • Competent in using Gas Control software applications.
  • Willingness to work in a shift-based schedule, including potential overtime during critical situations.
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and regulatory qualification requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Focus on business-related disciplines.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with insurability.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively in high-pressure environments while maintaining a positive demeanor.
