Nurse Residency Specialist Job Summary

The Nurse Residency Specialist is a key role in creating a supportive learning environment for new graduate nurses to develop their skills and progress to proficient RN competency.

This position serves as a coach and mentor to assigned nurse residents and international nurses, implementing system-level guidelines and programming to socialize and enculturate them into SSM Health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver nursing residency classes and experiences at the system and ministry levels.
  • Participate in nurse residency program development and enhancement as an expert clinician.
  • Utilize integrative learning approaches to assist nurse residents with clinical reasoning and skill development.
  • Collaborate with preceptors and nurse leaders to ensure progressive assessment and monitoring of nurse residents and international nurses.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to preceptors and assigned nurse residents in a culture of mutual respect and trust.
  • Work closely with preceptors to ensure smooth transition from student to professional practice role.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring patient care is delivered based on age-specific needs and clinical needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Three years' registered nurse experience.
Work Environment:

This role requires constant standing and walking, frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs, and occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
