Position Title: Sushi Chef

General Overview:
The Sushi Chef is responsible for crafting and fulfilling customer orders while ensuring food safety standards are met. This role involves managing inventory, verifying product quality, and maintaining a positive image of the company through outstanding customer service.

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, Asian Department Manager, Assistant Asian Department Manager, Service Managers.
Supervises: Sushi Clerk
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare fresh sushi for customers, both pre-packaged and made-to-order.
- Deliver prompt, efficient, and friendly service, demonstrating care and patience in all customer interactions.
- Greet customers warmly and engage with them, fostering a welcoming environment.
- Learn and use customers' names to personalize interactions whenever possible.
- Answer phone calls promptly, providing helpful service and taking product orders.
- Assist customers by:
- Guiding them to desired products
- Retrieving items that are out of reach
- Helping with heavy items
- Documenting and communicating customer suggestions
- Collaborate with team members to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive work atmosphere.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the work area at all times.
- Participate in scheduling and oversee food ordering and planning.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding food and preparation methods.
- Contribute to merchandising strategies for sushi products.
- Attend company and industry meetings as required.
- Adhere to company policies and store guidelines.
- Consistently report to work on time.
- Conduct fresh sushi demonstrations.
- Stay informed about meal trends and menu planning.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent with food safety training and certification. One to three years of relevant experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly.
- Visual acuity for tasks requiring close vision and depth perception.
- Capability to perform physical activities such as balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting.
- Logical thinking to solve problems with various variables.
- Arithmetic skills for calculations involving fractions and percentages.
- Ability to compose correspondence and follow technical manuals.
This position may involve exposure to raw fish, flour, dust, noise, and temperature variations. Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals may occur. The work environment is fast-paced and may involve significant pressure.
Equipment Utilized:
Oven, steamer, scale, mixer, shrink wrap machine, register, walk-in cooler, knives, serving cases, and inventory management systems.
Contact:
Regular interaction with internal customers and the public, along with weekly communication with suppliers and vendors.
