The Highlands Recreation District is seeking a qualified Early Education/Preschool Teacher to join our team. As a key member of our early childhood education program, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that promotes the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of children aged 3 months to 5 years.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment that reflects children's learning and growth.
  • Conduct regular observations of each child to document their developmental growth and develop lesson plans that support their needs.
  • Provide a balance of child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities that promote curiosity, hands-on exploration, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Utilize Reggio-Emilia philosophy and play-based learning in the classroom to promote cultural diversity, socio-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
  • Use positive guidance techniques and consistent routines to support transitions and encourage self-help skills and independence in children.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through weekly updates, classroom documentation, and annual conferences.
  • Participate in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills and foster positive relationships with coworkers.
Requirements
  • Prior experience working with children.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 12 college-level units in Early Childhood Education.
  • Infant/Toddler units required for Infant/Toddler Teacher.
Personal Qualities and Special Job Characteristics
  • Must display a genuine disposition for engaging children and promoting curiosity and learning.
  • Must have a warm, supportive attitude towards children.
  • Must be reliable and flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
  • Must be willing to accept supervision to improve work performance.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Must be physically able to perform the job of an Early Childhood Educator (able to lift children and or equipment up to 40lbs, able to stoop, bend, or sit for extended periods).
