Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Refill Specialist to join our Patient Support Center team. As a Pharmacy Refill Specialist, you will play a critical role in bridging the gap between patients' access to virtual prescription support and telehealth services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Prescription Refills: Process prescription refill requests in real-time from patients and pharmacies via incoming calls, live chat messaging, and electronic prescription refill transmission within our electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Communicate with Providers and Pharmacies: Communicate with providers' staff, pharmacies, and prescription insurance companies to assist patients in receiving their medication in a timely manner.
  • Maintain Accurate Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of all prescription refill interactions, ensuring proper details are documented in the EMR.
  • Authorize Prescription Refills: Authorize 'courtesy refills' according to the prescription refill protocol when patients are due for an appointment and/or are running out of medication.
  • Notify Pharmacies: Notify pharmacies that a 'Return to Office' appointment is needed for future refills for the patient per the prescription refill protocol.
  • Perform Appointment Scheduling: Perform appointment scheduling for provider office visits and telemedicine visits when needed.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: 1+ years of pharmacy technician or medical assistant experience specifically involving prescription refills and patient engagement and education on medication in an ambulatory/clinic setting.
  • Skills: Call center experience and/or handling high volumes of incoming calls, experience using EMR systems, preferably Athena Health.
