Job Title: Counselor

We are seeking a compassionate and culturally informed Counselor to provide comprehensive mental health services to undergraduate students at Whitworth University.

Job Summary

The Counselor will provide individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, assessment, case management, and outreach programs. The successful candidate will also serve as a consultant on psychological issues to the broader campus community and advise student groups as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling services to students, including individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, and assessment.
  • Develop and implement educational and outreach programs to promote mental health and wellness on campus.
  • Collaborate with Health Services, Educational Support Services, Residence Life, Campus Safety, Athletics, and external community resources to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Participate in the development and review of agency policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Assist with special projects and department events as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited university in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or other closely related mental health field.
  • At least one year of experience as a full-time mental health professional, with evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the cultural diversity within the college student population.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice psychotherapy in the State of Washington, preferred.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and evidence that demonstrates cultural responsiveness by collaborating with stakeholders to create a campus climate that embraces cultural diversity and helps promote the academic, career, and social/emotional success for all students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide psychological services (clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy) to college students on personal/interpersonal issues, multicultural issues, developmental/educational/career concerns, and the full range of mental health disorders.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the needs and issues of college students.
  • Experience working within a collaborative team-based approach to clinical services in a fast-paced work setting.
