Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design project teams in Oak Ridge, TN to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
  • Develop and implement mechanical design plans, adapting to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Collaborate with project managers to set project needs and requirements.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning.
  • Manage change orders and ensure effective project execution.
  • Apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Develop and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build relationships with clients, customers, and contractors to develop new business opportunities.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to mechanical engineering practice.
  • Ensure QA/QC process adherence and effective communication with other engineering disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  • 7 years mechanical engineering experience, with DOE and EPC project experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
