Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of clinical services, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Interpret operational indicators to detect changes in census and volume, and make recommendations to adjust staffing levels and resources accordingly.
  • Assist in the hiring, evaluating, and terminating of clinical personnel, ensuring that all staff members are qualified and competent to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Conduct regular clinical performance evaluations to ensure that staff members are meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Oversee the content and compliance of all clinical notes, orders, practices, and processes, ensuring that they meet regulatory requirements and are clinically sound.
  • Develop and implement in-services and continuing education programs to meet the education and training needs of clinical staff.
  • Participate in the evaluation of organizational performance through the performance improvement program, productivity, quarterly, and annual reviews.
  • Ensure that all clinical staff are held accountable for meeting productivity and quality standards, and that patient care is delivered in accordance with agency policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to patient complaints in a timely and thorough manner, with customer service as the top priority.
  • Document complaints and communicate with staff members in response to complaints as appropriate.
  • Assist in auditing charts in response to Adverse Event and OBQI reports.
  • Participate in regulatory agency reviews and ensure that all clinical staff are knowledgeable about and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for counseling and developing associates in the meeting of their job expectations.
  • Work cooperatively with intake and marketing staff to accept new referrals and ensure that all patients receive high-quality care.
  • Perform visits and admissions as needed, based on staffing availability and coverage during vacations or illness.
  • Collect and trend all required data for the performance improvement program, utilizing appropriate forms.
  • Submit PI quarterly results to the Compliance and Quality Manager.
Requirements:
  • 2 years of experience in a direct hospice field.
  • Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state where the agency is located.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing.
  • Master's degree in health care preferred.
  • Three years of leadership management experience in a hospice or related health care organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional administrative personnel.
  • Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.
  • Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations, and ACHC standards.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to patient homes per patient schedule and agency needs.
  • Using effective body mechanics, must be able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist; lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder; lift and carry 40 lbs. and push/pull 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to (or assist with) lift, turn, move, and position patients.
  • Must be able to ensure clinically competent/qualified staffing is appropriate to meet the needs of the patients served.
  • Must be able to competently direct and oversee patient care, ensuring care is clinically appropriate.
  • Must be able to ensure efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective clinical operations of the agency.
  • Must be able to modify/approve clinical paperwork, as well as perform chart audits and provide associate education when necessary.
  • Must have valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.
  • Must have knowledge of governmental regulations and JCAHO standards (if applicable).
  • Must have knowledge of hospice Medicare, state regulations, governmental regulations, and JCAHO standards (if applicable).
