Head Start Teacher Assistant

This position is accountable for the overall operation of the Head Start/Pre-K Counts classroom, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and manage to provide a conducive environment for the child's healthy well-being and total development.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate educational, social, emotional, and physical development of children in the Head Start/Pre-K Counts program, planning the curriculum with the team.
- Assist the teacher in facilitating various activities and experiences that encourage questioning, probing, and problem-solving skills, promoting physical development and nutrition.
- Help children acquire and use language as a means of communicating their thoughts, feelings, and self-esteem to others, assisting in developing social emotional skills for positive interactions with peers and adults.
- Work with the teacher to coordinate daily activities, ensuring a healthy, clean, and safe environment, and share responsibility with other adults in the classroom to maintain and clean toys and equipment.
- Develop and consistently follow a positive routine and simple rules that are understood and accepted by all, creating an environment conducive to learning.
- Work cooperatively with administrators and team members to utilize web-based platforms to manage and track child, family, teacher, and classroom data, performing recordkeeping and mandated reporting in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner.
- Establish a positive and productive relationship with families by encouraging participation in classroom activities, providing ideas for home activities, and visiting homes as needed.
- Create an atmosphere of teamwork with all service areas of Head Start/Pre-K Counts for the benefit of the child and their family.
- Attend and complete mandated trainings, professional development events, and implement learned concepts with fidelity.
- Report to an Education Specialist for Classrooms or designee.
- Contribute to the success of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit by performing all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, or enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
- One year of experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
- Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearances required prior to hire.
- School Personnel Health Record (Form H) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire.

Be able to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating.
Be able to hear clearly.
Adequate vision to perform duties.
