Job Summary

Counselor II is a critical role in our organization, responsible for conducting culturally sensitive, trauma-informed treatment for individuals and families of all ages who have experienced or witnessed child maltreatment, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault in a multidisciplinary setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Crisis intervention, individual, group, and family trauma-informed, evidence-based counseling services on a weekly basis (or as scheduled depending on program requirements and family needs).
  • Complete and maintain accurate records to include informed consent, session notes, progress reports, business records, and monthly service reports.
  • Conduct psycho-social assessments, evaluate findings for completion of a holistic psycho-social treatment/case plan.
  • Exercise all activities in accordance with the confidentiality, law, and ethics of the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the National Association of Social Workers.
  • Participate in scheduled staff and multidisciplinary team meetings, presenting relevant information on all case/treatment plans, changes, and onsite partner referrals.
  • Complete follow-up on participants following the completion of services.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Registered as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, or Associate Clinical Social Worker by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Completed or willing to complete State Certification in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
  • Completed training in Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
  • Computer competency, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with a database management system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some experience working with individuals and children in a social service/educational setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use communication skills that successfully convey and obtain accurate and complete information in a respectful and caring manner.
  • Have a basic knowledge of body language and non-verbal communication.
  • Understand and demonstrate active listening skills.
  • Past teaching experience will be helpful in assisting clients improve and develop necessary skills to promote well-being.
Work Environment

Work is performed in an office setting with a low-to-moderate noise level; employee will need to utilize their personal vehicle for travel to and from meetings outside the office; employee must regularly communicate by telephone, written communications, and in-person with staff, families served, partners, funders, and other professionals; occasionally lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
