Role Summary:
The Faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences reports directly to the Department Chair. This role is essential in ensuring that program content and delivery maintain high standards of quality. Responsibilities include reviewing curriculum, establishing and assessing student learning outcomes, facilitating best practice sharing among faculty, and balancing local campus interests with program requirements and discipline needs. Faculty members are also expected to engage in ongoing scholarly activities as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver didactic, laboratory, and small group instruction.
- Act as a mentor, advocate, and advisor to students and fellow faculty to support their academic and professional growth.
- Engage in scholarly activities within the department, school, and university.
- Provide management input for planning, budgeting, personnel allocation, and program development.
- Review and recommend annual modifications to departmental goals and objectives, aligning them with the university's mission and strategic plan.
- Prepare reports and documentation as requested by administration.
- Ensure course materials are updated for catalog narratives and descriptions.
- Foster positive relationships between the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and university staff and faculty.
- Assist in recruiting and retaining high-quality faculty and students.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Operations and other administrators to orient faculty and staff.
- Design and implement professional development activities for faculty and staff.
- Conduct annual peer evaluations of faculty teaching.
- Promote professionalism and commitment to the pharmacy profession.
- Participate in university functions and attend relevant conferences and seminars.
- Advocate for the School of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in public forums.
- Serve on university or departmental committees as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Campus Dean.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Pharmacology or a related discipline.
- Post-Doctoral research fellowship in Pharmacology or a related field is mandatory.
- Preferred prior teaching experience in a relevant area.
- Membership in a professional association related to the field of instruction is preferred.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students.
- Proficient in computer-based skills, including software, analytical, and report writing capabilities.
