Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Survey Instrument Operator to join our Survey Group in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will assist Land Surveyors and Party Chiefs in conducting field surveys, collecting data, and operating survey equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and record data for boundaries, location, topographical, and design surveys
  • Operate robotic total stations, levels, GPS receivers, and data collectors to perform field surveys
  • Set points on construction stakeout projects, including curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, and bridges
  • Conduct daily maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment
  • Make sketches and records measurements to indicate exact location of horizontal and vertical control points
  • Assist in the maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicle
  • Travel may be required at times
Requirements
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read survey and engineering drawings
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry and geometry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to apply professional knowledge to routine and non-routine tasks and surveying activities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management skills to ensure deadlines are met
  • Current state driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle
  • Physical demands include carrying up to 50 lb. of equipment over various terrain
Work Environment

All-weather year-round outdoor work environment, with seasonal extreme heat index and wind-chill factors

Additional physical demands include hiking, climbing, and vegetation management
