Academic Advisor, Graduation Specialist, San Francisco State University

At San Francisco State University, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor, Graduation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Undergraduate Advising Center, you will provide academic advising services to undergraduate students, focusing on their academic success and timely graduation.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide academic advising to undergraduate students on major/minor requirements, general education areas, graduation requirements, and college-based policies.
- Monitor and assess students' progress, making adjustments to their academic plans as needed.
- Resolving moderately complex advising-related situations by applying knowledge of academic policy and recommending an appropriate course of action to students.
- Work closely with the Advising Manager and Advising Lead of the assigned college advising team.
- Deliver workshops for students in their assigned college, focusing on preparing and reviewing students for graduation.
- Follow up with students via email and maintain electronic advising summary reports/notes and data on students served.
- Attend all campus-wide advisor trainings related to academic advising.
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
- Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the program to which assigned.
- General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
- Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
- Ability to work closely with a diverse population and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of individual advising.
- Knowledge of academic, personal, and career planning and goal setting.
- Ability to apply interviewing techniques and facilitating academic advising sessions one-to-one.
- Ability to actively listen to students and provide accurate, respectful, and effective communication.
Regular work hours are 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday, with the ability to offer advising both in-person and remotely through Zoom. Schedule to be determined by advising manager in the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning. Ability to work occasional weekend hours and evening hours.
Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
