Position Overview:

The Pharmacy Automation Supervisor oversees all operations related to the pharmacy automation team. This role is essential in coordinating daily activities concerning wholesale drug order processing and prescription fulfillment, ensuring timely execution aligned with the pharmacy's objectives. The supervisor collaborates with pharmacy leadership on inventory oversight, safety protocols, and optimization initiatives, ensuring adherence to various regulatory standards. This position involves hiring, training, and managing state-licensed personnel within the automation department, requiring a comprehensive understanding of all pharmacy operations, excluding the duties of a pharmacist. The supervisor addresses complex issues related to fulfillment, medication inventory, and other sensitive matters requiring prompt resolution.

Key Contributions to the Team:

  • Collaborate with facility Directors and Senior Managers to meet daily and annual goals for automation staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all AdventHealth policies and pharmacy guidelines among automation technicians.
  • Develop and present individual and departmental performance metrics monthly, including technician productivity and fulfillment turnaround times.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of pharmacy services and communicate effectively with staff to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Lead the team in executing processes and procedures, providing guidance on automation throughput, including medication packing and shipping.
  • Foster strong vendor and customer relationships through professional and knowledgeable interactions.
  • Safeguard the integrity of patient-sensitive information in prescription orders, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance of pharmacy automation equipment, ensuring daily upkeep is performed consistently.
  • Work closely with IT and automation vendors to address workflow modifications or system testing as needed.
  • Collaborate with Operational and Clinical leaders to ensure proper stocking of medications and supplies, adhering to storage guidelines.
  • Schedule and oversee routine inventory counts, validating the performance of the automation system and ensuring accuracy in medication counts.
  • Monitor the performance and temperature of medication storage equipment, taking immediate action to maintain inventory integrity.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business, Informatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in various pharmacy settings.
  • At least 1 year of leadership experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience with pharmacy automation systems for centralized fulfillment.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Florida; must fulfill state continuing education requirements.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification; must complete national continuing education requirements.
