Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled clinician with prior specialty experience, committed to advancing their knowledge and expertise. This role involves delivering effective direct care as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team to manage a diverse range of complex patients. The ideal candidate will actively seek and provide constructive feedback to enhance clinical practices. This position also includes a budding leadership role at the bedside, with opportunities for mentorship. As a professional member of the Professional Nursing Governance Council (PNGC), you will contribute insights on various topics discussed in meetings. Participation in PNGC councils and Nursing Quality Teams is encouraged, as well as involvement in the Unit Council to enhance NDNQI nursing-sensitive indicators, RN Satisfaction, Employee Engagement, Culture of Safety, and Patient Experience metrics. Collaboration with fellow team members is essential for recruiting and retaining a high-quality nursing staff. For new graduate clinical RNs, the focus will be on developing competencies and demonstrating growth in caring for increasingly complex patients. Responsibilities include providing direct and safe patient care based on the nursing process and coordinating care for assigned patients to achieve clinical outcomes. Consultation with more experienced clinicians is encouraged, and feedback is viewed as a valuable tool for professional development.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications: Must be licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia.
- Educational Requirements: Associate Nursing Degree is required.
- Minimum Experience: One (1) year of experience as a professional RN is preferred. New graduate RNs or those with less than one (1) year of experience will be directed to the RN Residency Program.
- Preferred Licensure or other certifications: National certification in clinical specialty as eligible.
- Preferred Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Preferred Experience: One (1) year of experience in Long Term Care.
- Other: Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
- Delivery of safe, effective, and efficient care that adheres to population-specific guidelines.
- Proactively works to ensure the success of oneself and related teams, communicates effectively with patients, families, and colleagues at all levels, and demonstrates respect and consideration for others while fostering a culture of customer service.
- Prioritizes effectively, identifies problems, and utilizes evidence-based practices.
- Exhibits personal mastery and leadership skills, delegates appropriately, and supports the shared governance model of NGHS.
- Basic computer skills necessary for operating unit-specific systems.
- Required competencies are reviewed annually and documented accordingly.
- Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrates fundamental assessment skills and the five rights of medication administration. Manages care for basic patient assignments and progresses to more complex cases. Accurately documents all aspects of the nursing process using electronic medical records as applicable. Understands and adheres to all relevant standards and policies. Evaluates patient responses to interventions and adjusts care plans as necessary. Coordinates interdisciplinary care effectively and utilizes resources to minimize waste. Participates in performance improvement processes and ensures compliance with regulations. Coordinates discharge planning and contributes to a culture of safety within the organization.
- Interpersonal Skills and Relationships: Involves patients and families in care processes. Provides effective education tailored to the learning needs of patients and families. Demonstrates exemplary customer service behaviors and participates in customer service initiatives at both organizational and unit levels.
- Critical Thinking Skills and Innovation: Plans patient care based on thorough assessments. Displays strong prioritization and time management skills. Evaluates patient responses to interventions and seeks assistance to modify care plans as needed. Utilizes available resources to enhance understanding of unfamiliar patient populations. Recognizes signs of patient deterioration and engages appropriate resources. Engages with nursing research and evidence-based practice articles. Participates in discharge planning with increasing responsibility and coordination. Demonstrates the ability to swiftly recognize and respond to changes in patient status while maintaining professionalism. Acknowledges nursing practice trends and questions care in relation to evidence-based practices. Independently prioritizes patient care consistently.
- Leadership and Professional Development: Supports unit objectives and demonstrates commitment to shared governance initiatives. Completes a professional development plan and shows progress towards personal learning goals. Supervises and ensures the completion of tasks assigned to ancillary/support staff. Engages in enhancing the nursing profession and supporting the community. Appropriately delegates tasks and seeks resources by consulting with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates support for shared governance through active participation and input. May serve in a unit leadership role, including responsibilities such as patient flow management, resource allocation, and escalating concerns through the appropriate channels.
