Job Overview

The U.S.VETS organization is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to fill the position of Mental Health Support Specialist. This role plays a crucial part in supporting veterans in achieving their highest level of independence and assists in the daily implementation of basic residential services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a harmonious atmosphere within the program by maintaining communication with clinical and program staff, and promoting a therapeutic community environment among clients.
  • Establish rapport and maintain professional relationships with clients and potential clients.
  • Coordinate individual and group services to help veterans achieve specific life and recovery goals.
  • Assist in preventing or de-escalating problematic behaviors among clients, including submitting incident reports as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; one year of experience in social services or a related field preferred.
  • A veteran of the U.S. military or military-related family member is preferred.
  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques.
  • Experience working with homeless and/or veterans preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional manner and appearance.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Internet.
