Position Overview

Operation Breakthrough is dedicated to assisting children from low-income backgrounds in reaching their maximum potential by offering a nurturing, safe, and educational atmosphere. ROLE SUMMARY

An Early Childhood Educator is responsible for guiding and overseeing children in a full-day Early Head Start or Head Start classroom setting while actively engaging in related educational activities.

REQUIREMENTS

The position of Head Start Teacher necessitates at least an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, complemented by thirty (30) hours of coursework in early education. A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related discipline, along with the requisite coursework, is preferred.

For Early Head Start Teachers or Head Start Teacher Assistants, a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a degree with nine (9) hours of early education coursework is required. Candidates must provide transcripts and/or current CDA certifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee daily attendance, meal counts, lesson planning, and classroom cleanliness.
  • Design and implement educational activities tailored to the developmental stages of each child.
  • Utilize the Early Head Start Curriculum and adhere to Developmentally Appropriate Practices in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with and mentor Co-Teachers on educational objectives and plans for each child, using screening and observational data.
  • Work with professional staff to use Developmental Screening, anecdotal records, and portfolios to create lesson plans and individualized programs.
  • Address the unique needs of individual children with teaching staff, specialists, and parents, providing necessary documentation for referrals.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans that include individual, small group, and large group activities.
  • Organize special events and field trips, incorporating ideas from Assistant Teachers.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Report any safety, physical, or licensing concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Supervise mealtimes effectively.
  • Facilitate Parent/Teacher Conferences in accordance with Head Start and Early Head Start policies, informing parents about program activities and objectives.
  • Encourage parental involvement through participation in activities.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of classroom supplies as per center guidelines.
  • Conduct and participate in classroom staff meetings.
  • Ensure timely submission of all required paperwork and reports.
  • Manage classroom supplies necessary for activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
