Job Title: LPN - Green Cove Springs FL

Join the Clay County Sheriff's Office as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our Detention Facility. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality medical care to inmates, ensuring their health and well-being while in our custody.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide medical care to inmates, including administering medications, taking vital signs, and performing triage.
  • Screen inmate medical requests and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Document and report infectious diseases to appropriate agencies.
  • Assist with clinic, psychiatrist, mental health, HIV clinic, labs, and x-rays.
  • Prepare and administer inmate medications, maintaining the security of the medical cart.
  • Measure inmates' vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Respond to declared medical emergencies and provide required medical attention.
  • Supervise, control, and log access to medical facility pharmacy keys.
  • Document inmate medical history and perform physical appraisals within 14 days of booking.
  • Utilize narrative detailed medical records to accurately document all patient contacts.
  • Review and countersign diagnostic test results, and study and forward them to the appropriate practitioner for review and countersignature.
  • Provide emotional and physical comfort to patients while ensuring the safety of inmates and preserving the security and integrity of the facility.
  • Assist inmates with activities of daily living, with special attention to therapeutic significance and overall well-being.
  • Implement physician's orders as directed, consistent with agency policies and procedures, and medical facility practices.
  • Provide information, advice, and effective counseling/treatment to inmates with chronic medical problems.
  • Utilize appropriate infection control techniques and operate emergency equipment properly to reduce the chance of infection and ensure quality care.
  • Obtain informed consents prior to initiating psychotropic medications or performing invasive procedures.
  • Collect specimens to monitor inmates for psychotropic medication toxicity, as ordered, and label them accurately with required information, then promptly forward them to the appropriate entity for analysis.
  • Demonstrate a positive working relationship with colleagues and other units within the agency to maximize work area output and services.
  • Prepare for, conduct, attend, and actively participate in specialized training courses, conferences, workshops, as required to satisfy mandatory training requirements and/or receive or provide necessary job-specific training in specialized areas.
  • Respond to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback of superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics.
  • Follow all leave and attendance-related policies/procedures, including arriving on time, working the entire shift, submitting vacation and personnel requests, notifying the supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents, and notifying the supervisor concerning overtime hours worked.
  • Demonstrate a polite, helpful, courteous, and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Check assigned mailbox, telephone/electronic messages (email), and respond to messages in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Operate and care for equipment to manufacturers' specifications and/or within the specified parameters and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, IV certification.
  • Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License (Florida).
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): A comprehensive employee assistance program, provided by Aetna, which includes counseling, education, and referral services for employees and their eligible family members.

Vacation/Sick Leave/Personal Time Off: Full-time employees accrue Personal Time Off (PTO) per year, with the accrual rate increasing depending on their length of service with the Sheriff's Office.

Holiday Pay: The Sheriff's Office has eleven paid holidays and birthday leave for full-time employees.

Retirement Plans: The Sheriff's Office participates in the Florida Retirement System. Employees have a choice from two plans under the FRS: Pension Plan and Investment Plan.

Deferred Compensation Plans: Employees may also elect to participate in the County's deferred compensation plan, which offers a choice from two providers: Mass Mutual and Nationwide.

Pre-Tax Benefits: Certain payroll deductions can be taken on a before-tax basis, including medical and dental premiums, FRS plan contributions, and high deductible plan contributions.
