Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our pediatric team at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic activities and psychosocial care to pediatric patients and their families. Your expertise will help patients cope with stress and anxiety related to healthcare experiences, and you will work collaboratively with our healthcare team to integrate therapeutic interventions with overall patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and develop individualized programs of activities and behavioral strategies to promote understanding and prepare patients for healthcare experiences.
  • Provide procedural, emotional, and bereavement support to patients and families.
  • Assess need for outpatient psychosocial care and recommend referrals.
  • Manage a volunteer service program to support Child Life Program activities.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to pediatric staff, parents, volunteers, students, and other hospital staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, or related field.
  • Masters Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, or related field preferred.
  • Completion of a Child Life internship from an accredited Child Life program.
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist preferred.
  • Must obtain Certification by the Child Life Council within 18 months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 120 days of hire.
