Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Government Planner/Deputy Director to join our team at Lake County Government. As a key member of our planning department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Department Director in a wide range of professional, technical, and administrative duties related to land use applications and long-range planning efforts.
  • Take a lead role in the management of the land use application case load, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Provide supervisory responsibilities and lead participatory public engagement processes.
  • Prepare staff reports, presentations, and written reports on various planning matters and elements of the Comprehensive Plan.
  • Review commercial, industrial, and residential development proposals, plans, and applications for compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Inspect properties and structures for compliance with County codes and regulations.
  • Process applications for new major subdivisions, rezones, lot consolidations, and other land use permits.
  • Confer with architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the public regarding County development policies and standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in urban planning, environmental planning, public or business administration, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in urban planning, land use management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of urban planning and development, site planning principles, research and reporting methods, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, and GIS.

  • Annual Salary: $80,000-$90,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
