Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Crisis Intervention Specialist II to join our team at St. Luke's Hospital. As a key member of our Behavioral Health Services team, you will provide comprehensive crisis intervention services to patients and their families, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments to identify patients' mental health needs and make referral recommendations to appropriate levels of care.
  • Collaborate with care teams, including physicians, advanced practitioners, and other behavioral health staff, to facilitate referral decisions and placement.
  • Serve as a liaison for other hospital and network sites, supporting requests and assisting with patient flow and placement issues.
  • Demonstrate expertise in mental health regulations and procedures, ensuring patient rights and admission status are respected.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of growth and development, communication, and treatment approaches for patients of all ages.
  • May serve as a preceptor for new crisis services staff, providing guidance and support in their orientation and training.
  • Respond to agitation and violent behavior, utilizing verbal de-escalation and physical restraint techniques as needed.
  • Support the function of utilization management, ensuring pre-certification processes are completed for all intakes and consults.
  • Assist in updating referral and resource information, as well as other data collection projects as requested by the Manager.
  • Monitor the therapeutic environment to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all patients.
Requirements
  • Mental health professional with a minimum of one of the following:
  • Master's degree in a human services field and 3+ years of equal job experience.
  • Master's degree in a human services field with license (LSW, LCSW, LPC, etc.) and 2+ years of equal job experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of equal job experience.
  • Minimally, 2 years of direct clinical mental health/crisis intervention experience required.
  • Previous experience with case management/utilization review and managed care models preferred.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

This role requires sitting for up to 5 hours per day, standing for up to 1 hour per day, and walking for up to 2 hours per day. The ability to frequently use hands to write, type, and hold charts is also required. The position involves occasional use of fingers to turn pages and rare use of hands or fingers for firm grasping or twisting/turning. The ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds is also necessary.

This role requires normal conversation in person or on the telephone and general vision, near vision, far vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
