School Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled School Counselor to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with state and local standards.

1. Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics.
2. Consults with parents, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals.
3. Administers tests and analyzes and interprets test results to provide information about educational, vocational, and personal/social needs.
4. Assists with placement and follow-up services for students.
5. Develops personal professional growth plan and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.

• Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate endorsed in the relevant subject area.
• Previous Counseling experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
