Job Overview

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of industrial heat treating systems, which encompass aluminum heat treatment, solution heat treat & aging, general heat treat furnaces (Thermal Process), process atmospheres, CAB Brazing, and aluminum reverb melting & holding systems.

Key Responsibilities

On-Site Installations:

Set up, calibrate, troubleshoot, and rectify issues that arise during the installation, operation, and maintenance of heat processing equipment. Collaborate with clients or supervisors to strategize the layout of equipment. Review blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to ascertain installation protocols. Oversee or execute the installation of equipment in accordance with specifications. Operate systems to demonstrate functionality and diagnose malfunctions.

Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to repair equipment, utilizing expertise in electronics along with standard testing instruments and hand tools. Guide and mentor team members in servicing and repairing equipment. Liaise with engineering teams to address operational and maintenance challenges. Provide instruction on mechanical and electronic principles as needed. Supervise team members in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to achieve optimal performance. Offer insights to management regarding customer satisfaction, product efficacy, and potential enhancements.

Conduct troubleshooting and modifications of relay and instrumentation circuitry. Grasp atmosphere systems and processes to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues. Execute setup and adjustments of systems, identifying deficiencies and implementing corrective measures. Determine and initiate the most effective methods for installation and startup of projects. Carry out these responsibilities with minimal support from the Engineering Department. Promote safe and efficient equipment operations.

Cost Management:

Monitor, control, and report on field-related expenses. Ensure that all safety signage is displayed during installations. Verify that personnel do not enter confined spaces without completing necessary permitting protocols. Undertake additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

A college degree in engineering or equivalent military/trade school training or experience is required. Previous experience in field service installation and troubleshooting is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to collaborate across various functions and organizational levels. A customer-focused attitude, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, is imperative. Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems is expected.

Proficiency in personal computers and software applications is required. Ability to troubleshoot and repair various heat treating systems at the component level is essential. Candidates must be capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously while working with minimal supervision. A team-oriented mindset, positive attitude, and ability to work well with others are crucial. Flexibility and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment are necessary. Attention to detail is vital.

Environmental Considerations

This role involves routine bending and lifting (20–50 pounds) and manipulating heavier equipment with assistance. Extensive travel may be required, including trips within the USA and internationally, often outside of standard business hours, with travel potentially comprising up to 90% of the time.
