This is a contractual role with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position.
Role Summary:
The primary responsibility of a certified phlebotomist is to carry out various assigned tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and suggest workflow improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws, accurately label specimens, and centrifuge samples.
- Maintain and update patient records and ensure proper decontamination procedures.
- Collect and store specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal samples.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
- Comprehend and execute all physician orders accurately.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, ensuring correct labeling and processing.
- Package specimens appropriately for transport, adhering to temperature requirements and labeling standards.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Participate in annual departmental training sessions.
- Respond to phone inquiries and communicate laboratory results effectively.
Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
