Job Summary

At Pioneers Medical Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing safe and competent respiratory care to patients in various settings, including emergency, pediatric, geriatric, and critical care. Your expertise will be essential in administering medications, monitoring mechanical ventilation, and performing patient assessments.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all respiratory care procedures.
• Verify respiratory care physicians' orders and initial, date, and time orders after verification.
• Receive and give accurate and complete reports, updating and completing patient profiles to reflect current clinical status.
• Participate in department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
• Keep supervisors apprised of changes in workload and patient acuity.
• Enter daily services and charges into the department's computer system.
• Demonstrate expertise in respiratory care instruments and equipment, performing troubleshooting and problem resolution as needed.
• Perform airway management, including bag/mask ventilation, and assist with intubation as required.
• Initiate and perform CPR, primarily responsible for airway management.
• Initiate, maintain, monitor, and document continuous mechanical ventilation.
• Provide timely and accurate updates to physicians and other hospital personnel, making recommendations for changes or modifications to patient therapy as needed.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precept new employees during orientation.
• Understand and implement advanced ventilator modalities, such as IRV, SILV PC.
• Work in all areas of the hospital, adapting to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
• Effectively communicate advanced respiratory pathophysiology with physicians, implementing changes based on patient condition.
• Perform arterial blood gas sampling and initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients.
• Interpret flow volumes and pressure volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes.
• Evaluate chest x-rays for endotracheal placement and other clinical conditions, optimizing respiratory care delivery.
• Complete required continuous training and education, adhering to department-specific requirements.
• Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements and observe policies and procedures for infection control, hazardous waste management, safety, and risk management.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the unit.
• Adhere to the standards and policies of the corporate compliance program, reporting suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices as required.
