Job Overview

The Primal Pet Group is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team in Abilene, Texas. As a key member of our Prairie Dog Team, you will be responsible for providing intermediate-level expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on packaging and production equipment in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
  • Multi-task repairs and schedule maintenance tasks to ensure job completion
  • Use alternative components to ensure equipment remains operational
  • Repair machines and equipment using approved procedures and standards while maintaining safety practices
  • Respond to production calls for corrective, preventative, and emergency maintenance
  • Initiate parts requests for machines
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including inspection, adjustment, cleaning, replacement, realigning, etc.
  • Read and interpret repair manuals, basic schematics, and supervisor/manager's instructions
  • Assist technicians with basic maintenance tasks, such as sweeping, cleaning, and greasing
  • Follow lockout/tag-out procedures
  • Communicate with mechanics on other shifts, using verbal and written communications to receive and relay specific machine conditions or other information related to the department
  • Operate welding machinery, related equipment, saws, grinders, sanders, and hand tools safely and efficiently
  • Be available to work various shifts and weekends
  • Punctual and regular attendance is required

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of maintenance mechanic experience in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use various test equipment, such as multi-meters, digital tach, and digital thermometer
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work in a team and independently to achieve team objectives
  • PLC troubleshooting experience is strongly preferred
  • Stainless welding, lathe, and mill experience is a plus
