Job Summary

The Jewish Chaplain will provide spiritual care and support to patients and their families in a forensic psychiatric hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct Jewish religious services and other rituals of Jewish tradition for patients.
  • Provide spiritual counseling to patients in groups and on units.
  • Counsel patients and their families on moral and ethical problems.
  • Establish a rapport with patients, analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Use spiritual assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in the clinical setting.
  • Understand and help others discover meaning in the experience of suffering grief and loss.
  • Understand the ways in which psychosocial dynamics and cultural/ethical differences affect pastoral care practices and circumstances.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with a high degree of self-initiative and good judgment.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with different departments in the hospital.

Working Conditions

The hospital provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area.
