Health Information Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Health Information Specialist. As a Health Information Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of patient health information. You will play a critical role in maintaining electronic health records (EHR), coding diagnoses and procedures, and facilitating the efficient exchange of health information within our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Review, catalog, and check medical reports for completeness, type health information forms promptly, and file reports into health information records.
- Routinely greet patients, visitors, and employees and remain friendly through every contact and transaction.
- Maintain high attention to detail by reviewing all work for completeness and accuracy in compliance with organizational quality assurance policies. Complete HIM functions to meet department and industry accuracy standards for error-free work.
- Seek assistance from Health Information Services Supervisor when needed to investigate and track unbilled accounts to determine the reason for incomplete status and work with appropriate resources for completion.
- Produce necessary agency and patient printed materials/notices for distribution.
- Perform release of information duties using HIPAA privacy/security standards, state law, and agency procedures.
- Answer incoming telephone calls to all departmental areas according to departmental telephone standards.
- Accurately prep, scan, index, and perform quality review and quality control of scanned images within the agency's EMR.

Requirements- Knowledgeable of our customer service mantra - AIDET throughout all interactions with patients.
- Understanding of patient's rights under HIPAA privacy rule.
- Basic understanding of documentation requirements for legal health record purposes.
- Skills: typing and database systems; data entry; operating basic office machinery; written and verbal communication.
- Ability: to navigate efficiently within an EMR system and other electronic systems maintained by agency relating to health information.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
