Job Overview:Poison Information Specialists play a vital role at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy, working closely with the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on poison and drug information to the general public, healthcare practitioners, and other agencies.
About the Position:
This term position is available as a part-time staff member, with an estimated salary range of $32.42-$55.62 per hour. The successful candidate will work in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) in Albuquerque, NM, with regular working hours varying between day shifts and overnights shifts based on seniority scheduling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Poison Information Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:
- • Responding to telephone inquiries from the public, healthcare professionals, and other agencies regarding poison and drug information.
• Providing information on the toxicity of drugs, poisons, chemicals, biologics, hazardous materials, and other substances; recommending antidotes, treatments, and/or courses of action in emergency situations.
• Collaborating with healthcare practitioners, agencies, and the public to provide information on all aspects of drug usage, as assigned.
• Sitting for and passing the Certified Specialist in Poison Information certification exam offered nationally once a year.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
- • A Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
• Eligibility for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of New Mexico.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to type 50 words per minute.
• Previous experience working in Emergency Department or ICU settings is highly desirable.
