Requirements

To be successful as a Medical Assistant, you should have:

  • A diploma or associate's degree from an accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Health Career Association
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in medical assisting
