The Community You Will Serve:

  • AdventHealth Apopka is a modern, seven-story, 120-bed facility offering a wide array of services, including advanced surgical options and a catheterization lab.
  • The hospital features a spacious 30,000-square-foot emergency department equipped with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, a chapel, a gift shop, and an on-site fire station.
  • The facility opened its doors in December 2017, replacing a 50-bed hospital that served the community for over forty years.
    Your Role:
    As a vital member of our team, you will engage in exceptional customer service and uphold respectful relationships with all stakeholders. Your primary duties will include managing medication distribution and pharmacy operations, which encompasses assisting pharmacists with medication preparation and dispensing, inventory oversight, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for the efficient daily operation of all departmental services and programs, accurately responding to medication requests, preparing medications for pharmacist review, delivering checked medications, and returning unused or expired medications to the appropriate areas.

Your Contributions to the Team:
*Pharmacy Operations*
• Execute all pharmacy technician responsibilities while maintaining proficiency in standard work parameters, hospital and pharmacy-specific systems, and operational programs.
• Ensure operational expertise and competency, providing coverage in at least two of the following areas:

  • Central/Distributive Pharmacy Operations
  • Sterile Compounding
  • Decentralized/Automated Dispensing Cabinet Delivery Operations
  • Controlled Substance Management
    AND at least one of the following:
  • Hazardous Medication Sterile Compounding
  • Quality Assurance & USP Required Sampling
  • Technician Inventory Check (where authorized)
  • Medication History
  • Supporting Clinical Services
  • Purchasing and Inventory Management

    AND Primary Job Function as:
  • Medication History Technician OR Inventory Specialist
    • Engage in the effective use of medication automation, technology, and computer systems. Maintain expertise in electronic health records and accurately interpret electronic documentation as necessary.
    • Conduct thorough medication inventories and prepare and dispense patient-specific medication doses accurately.
    Prevent issues related to improper drug selection, dosage form, expiration dating, and barcode scanning during product checks.

    • Perform oral and injectable compounding as applicable.
    • Execute special projects or assignments as directed by supervisors or managers.
    • Understand and manage the appropriate disposal of all waste materials, including hazardous waste, within the department. Be knowledgeable about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Hazardous Medication Spill Kits in case of spills.
      Pharmacy Practice:
    • Facilitate medication safety practices by identifying and reporting potential medication errors, such as look-alike/sound-alike medications.
    • Prepare and deliver medications accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
      Clinical Pharmacy Services:
    • Support pharmacy practice across all areas and clinical services.
    • Collaborate with pharmacy staff and care providers to optimize patient care and enhance services.
      Teamwork and Inter-Professional Collaboration:
    • Arrive on time and ready to work, demonstrating reliability and commitment.
    • Ensure continuity of care across shifts and among pharmacy staff assignments.
    • Work effectively with all healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

      Qualifications:
      What You Will Need:
      *EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE*
      REQUIRED:

      + High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 Year of Experience
      + One Year of Hospital Pharmacy Experience (Retail or Ambulatory Experience Acceptable for Medication History Function)


      PREFERRED:

      + Associate's Degree or Technical Degree in a Related Field or Specific Certification Related to the Position, Preferably in a Physical Science, Business, or Healthcare
      LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION:

      REQUIRED:
      + Applicable State Pharmacy Technician Registration (RPT)
      + Sterile Compounding Certification, if applicable per state legislation
      + Current Certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT), or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
