Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Operations Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Transportation. This role will involve performing moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work, including maintenance contract and/or material and process inspections, roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, and preventive and minor maintenance on equipment.

The ideal candidate will have 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. A valid driver's license and a CDL class "A" License are also required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, repair, and install signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts
  • Perform welding and use/move equipment/tools, materials and products
  • Assist in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites and assist stranded motorists as required
  • Assist with traffic control and place and gather cones, warning signs and barricades
  • Move/pick up litter and roadway debris
  • Operate heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and complete various required reports
Requirements
  • 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
  • Valid driver's license and a CDL class "A" License
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments and use basic mathematical fundamentals
  • Ability to maintain a safe working relationship and follow verbal and written instructions
