Sovah Health - Martinsville is seeking a skilled Central Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of infection control and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, decontaminate, store, and distribute all reusable supplies and patient care equipment in the hospital.
- Inspect, decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize instruments and other patient care equipment according to established guidelines and regulations.
- Operate departmental equipment daily, adhering to manufacturer instructions and emphasizing safety.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all departments, prioritizing patient needs.
- Process and document all sterile supplies and equipment daily, utilizing chemical, biological, and mechanical indicators to verify sterility.
- Monitor and perform antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and documentation.
- Enter patient charges and orders into the computer system.
- Develop problem-solving skills to enhance teamwork and effectiveness.
- Conduct biological monitoring and interpret results.
- Possess knowledge of steam and ETO sterilizer operations.
- Wash and decontaminate instruments and equipment from units throughout the hospital.
- Transport instruments and supplies to units.
- Remove equipment and supplies not in use, clean equipment, and return to storage.
- Utilize standard precautions for infection control, including hand-washing and body substance isolation.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Certification as a registered central service technician is required within one year of employment.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Typical physical demands include handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and the ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
- Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Requires ability to read and write legibly and carry out directions promptly and accurately.
- Must exhibit effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Requires the ability to respond quickly and calmly under stressful or emergency situations.
