About the Job
The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist III to join our team in Giddings, Texas. This journey-level position involves performing complex building maintenance and construction work, including repairs, renovations, and new installations. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in maintenance mechanics or related building construction fields.

Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Specialist III, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, vehicles, and equipment. You will also provide guidance to others on construction, maintenance, or repair projects. The role requires working under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. You may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and be on-call.

Essential Functions
* Services and maintains all assigned maintenance equipment and hand tools to ensure prolonged and safe usage (10%)* Works from and completes work orders to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner (10%)* Performs maintenance, construction, and repair work such as plumbing, painting, masonry, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, etc. in compliance with TJJD Maintenance and Operations Manual and standard trade practices (10%)* Performs carpentry work such as the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, doors, windows, wood fixtures, and furniture (10%)* Performs inspections of equipment, operating machinery, systems, building accessories, and appliances to ensure proper maintenance and repair (10%)* Identifies mechanical problems and determines how to fix problems (10%)* Requisitions materials and supplies for assigned tasks in compliance with procurement procedures (5%)* Assists with other jobs to ensure facility and equipment are properly maintained, including grounds keeping and auto mechanics (15%)* May assist in assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining modular furniture systems (10%)* May train others (5%)* Reports any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities

Benefits
This role offers a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience. Additionally, you will receive paid group health and life insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, longevity pay, educational assistance program, employee assistance program, and optional add-on benefits like dental, vision, and life insurance. Certain designated positions are eligible for hazardous duty pay, career ladder advancements, and free meals while on duty.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of full-time wage-earning experience in maintenance mechanics or related building construction fields. A minimum of 40 hours of approved and documented maintenance continuing education credits/hours is preferred. You must also pass a criminal background check and meet the minimum qualifications.
