Virginia Tech is seeking a highly skilled UAS Pilot to support Counter-UAS research and testing. The successful candidate will have experience in flight operations disciplines relevant to uncrewed/autonomous systems and be able to support a diverse array of tasks related to UAS research.
Key Responsibilities- Support UAS research and testing as a pilot of uncrewed aerial systems
- Operate in various UAS crewmember roles, including Pilot in Command, Visual Observer, and Aviation Safety Officer
- Develop, manage, and comply with FAA Certificates of Authorization
- Provide input to aeronautical research test planning
- Assist in MAAP Safety Risk Management processes
- Facilitate crew certification and training support
- Assist in flight operations scheduling
- Conduct preventative maintenance and basic modifications to MAAP UAS assets
- Prepare for, perform, and supervise ground and flight operations in accordance with all applicable regulations
- Master's degree in Uncrewed (or Unmanned) Aircraft Systems, aviation, or closely related field
- Experience with piloting autonomous and/or uncrewed aircraft
- Good communication skills
- Ability to lift items up to 25 pounds and operate independently
- US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- C-UAS experience
- Experience working with or within the Department of Defense
- FAA Part 107
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor or Ground Instructor
- Proficient RC flying skills
- Experience working with aviation safety
- Active security clearance at the TS/SCI level
