General Overview
The Forsyth County Department of Public Health is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join our team. This role involves delivering clinical services within the Public Health Tuberculosis Clinic and offering consultations in Child Health, Immunizations, and Refugee clinics.
Key Responsibilities
The mid-level Clinical Provider will be responsible for:
1) Conducting comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations, performing laboratory tests as needed, prescribing medications, and providing patient education.
2) Reviewing medical histories and physical assessment findings of Enhanced Role RNs, offering consultation for any abnormal findings, and managing treatment for patients with positive results.
3) Referring patients to local or state agencies or health department services and collaborating with community partners as necessary.
4) Participating in policy development and review.
Essential Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- In-depth knowledge of health assessment tools, laboratory tests, and therapeutic procedures.
- Familiarity with available resources and effective referral methods.
- Strong understanding of general medicine principles and disease states.
- Proficiency in clinical functions and assessments.
- Ability to accurately document all necessary information for care evaluation and planning.
- Skills in patient education and counseling for families and health professionals.
- Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patients.
Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant program recognized by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners or
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Subcommittee, and eligibility to practice medical acts based on education and experience.
Preferred qualifications include at least one year of experience as a physician extender and a minimum of two years in a clinical setting. Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are preferred.
Special Qualifications
Must be authorized to perform specified medical acts by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or the Joint Subcommittee of the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
Core Duties
As a Clinical Provider, your core duties will include:
- Coordinating operations of the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic, tuberculosis control program, immunization program, chronic disease detection program, and HIV Testing.
- Performing specialized clinical procedures such as minor surgeries, arthrocentesis, and sigmoidoscopy.
- Maintaining accurate medical records and completing necessary documentation.
- Participating in meetings and conferences.
- Continuously monitoring patients and coordinating referrals to specialists when appropriate.
- Discussing patient conditions and recommended actions with patients and their families.
- Reviewing laboratory results and performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing treatments, or referring issues to a physician.
- Collecting medical histories and relevant patient information.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
