Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist to join our team at Career Systems Development Corporation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and coordinating the Trainee Employee Assistance Program (TEAP) to prevent and intervene in substance use and abuse among our trainees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent and reduce substance use and abuse, in collaboration with the Mental Health Consultant, Counseling, and Health Services staff, Center Physician, and Center Director.
  • Coordinate all programs aimed at eliminating substance use and abuse, working closely with Health and Wellness staff to collect drug test specimens, document results, and provide them to students.
  • Provide individual counseling to students on substance abuse and prevention, as well as healthy choices, and facilitate group sessions with students enrolled in the TEAP program.
  • Conduct weekly presentations on managing substance misuse, abuse, and dependency symptoms and issues in the workplace for students during the Career Development and Transition Periods.
  • Develop and facilitate three annual center-wide substance use prevention and education activities.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions with both staff and students on substance use and abuse-related topics.
  • Submit recommendations to the Center Director for medical separations related to substance misuse and abuse, in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, Center Physician, and Health and Wellness Director.
  • Utilize formalized assessment measures, such as SASSI3 or SASSIA2, MAST, and DAST, to determine students' level of risk for substance use.
  • Participate in the center's Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyle (HEALS) Committee to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles and provide students with education and experiences that support lifelong health and physical well-being.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

Minimum: Active, unrestricted substance abuse license or certification that meets minimum state licensing or certification requirements to practice in the state where the center is located.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Previous experience working with disadvantaged youth, particularly in a residential setting, is highly desirable.

Knowledge: Broad-based knowledge of counseling techniques, knowledgeable in alcohol and other drugs of abuse and relapse programs, and ability to design, develop, and implement a program related to alcohol and other drugs of abuse and intervention.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, training skills in both individual and group counseling methods, and ability to relate well to young adults. Must possess and maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification and ability to use center computer programs and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
