Job Summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in a staff position. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients, administering respiratory care procedures and modalities, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure the best patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Treatment: Use respiratory therapy processes to assess patient needs, identify special requirements, and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues, and assist physicians with bedside procedures as needed.
  • Medication Administration: Provide medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and ensure proper functionality of equipment, and troubleshoot issues as necessary.
  • Patient Education: Educate and instruct patients in respiratory care techniques, self-care, and disease management.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide education on managing patients, and demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Culture of Safety: Promote a culture of safety by recognizing and applying proper safety measures to prevent patient harm, and report patient safety events and near misses in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months.
  • Education and Experience: Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program, with a minimum of an associate degree, and no experience required.
  • Skills and Abilities: Effective organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, proficient computer skills, and excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
