Research and Optimization Fellow Internship

As a Fellow Intern in the Enterprise Optimization Technical Organization at GE Aerospace, you will have the opportunity to develop novel graph theory applications to support complex engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations across multiple sites globally.
Candidates for this role should have a strong theoretical background in algorithm development and a willingness to learn deploying algorithms in scalable cloud and distributed computing environments targeted for enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities- Handling high-frequency multimodal data from distributed, heterogeneous information systems
- Developing and testing algorithms within cloud-computing frameworks to solve large-scale problems
- Coding quick prototype analytics tools for early software systems production
- Researching and developing tools, frameworks, and processes to improve analytical methods, performance, scale, and sophistication of algorithms and systems applications
- Communicating progress and results of research with the team, business leaders, customers, and technology providers
- Understanding various decision models (simulation/optimization, MILP, stochastic dynamic programming) in enterprise operations
- Programming with at least one of Python, C++, MATLAB, or Julia
At GE Aerospace Research, scientists, engineers, and technicians innovate for the future of flight. This internship will provide valuable hands-on experience to help you launch your career in industrial research. Intern assignments are typically 12-14 weeks, working side by side with experts in mechanical engineering, completing challenging technical projects, and applying theoretical knowledge to real-life technical problems. The program includes seminars on cross-center technology and soft skills development, as well as opportunities for networking and showcasing project accomplishments.
Qualifications/Requirements- Current enrollment in a PhD program, seeking a technical degree in Operations Research, Computational Mathematics, or a related field in an accredited college or university
- Permanent legal authorization to work in the US, proof required prior to employment
- Willingness to work at the GE Aerospace Research facility on the Niskayuna NY campus
- Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0 scale
- Excellent academic performance with technical research orientation
- Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and organization, demonstrated ability working with a team
- Strong problem-solving skills, thorough attention to detail
The pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. The specific weekly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and work location. GE provides travel reimbursement and housing stipend for qualified interns.
