Job Title: Director of Finance and Operations

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance and Operations to join our team at Caforthearts. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to our finance and operations functions, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and overseeing all accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, forecasting, budgeting, payroll, investments, grants management, and scenario planning.
  • Ensure all financial operations comply with local, state, and federal laws, and update finance policies as needed.
  • Manage internal controls, conduct internal audits and reconciliations, and identify any gaps or red flags.
  • Participate in organizational revenue planning and development of grant budgets, optimization of resources, identification of areas of risk, and potential solutions to mitigate them.
  • Oversee all agency banking activities and actively manage cash flow to meet organizational needs.
  • Serve as primary contact for independent auditors to ensure annual audit is completed timely, cooperate with funder audits, and prepare corrective action plans if needed.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and periodic forecasts for the organization overall and for individual programs/functional areas.
  • Develop and present quarterly and ad-hoc financial reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee preparation of financial reports required for funders in cooperation with the development team, ensure complete and accurate cost reimbursement and fee-for-service invoices are submitted timely.
  • Develop an investment policy statement and monitor, track, and report on investment performance monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Monitor grant spending to ensure compliance with grant requirements, applicable codes of federal regulations, or other oversight bodies to ensure satisfactory audits and avoid disallowed costs.
  • Prepare final budget reports for grants.
  • Lead preparation of annual program and organizational budgets in partnership with Executive and Senior Leadership teams.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and serve as liaison to Caforthearts' Finance and Audit Committees and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide input on organizational strategy and be responsible for achieving relevant strategic goals.
  • Lead implementation of accounting, payroll, and timekeeping software.
  • Process staff health care payments and Cal Savers.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivables, process vendor invoices and payments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required, MBA or related Master's degree highly desired.
  • Minimum 5-7 years proven track record as a nonprofit CFO, Controller, or Director of Finance (or comparable work experience) with deep understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, cost allocation practices, grants management, and oversight of government funding required.
  • Expert level QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel essential.
  • Experience implementing and using Gusto or other payroll/time and attendance platforms.
  • Proficient with cash flow management, budgeting, financial analysis and reporting, investment management, accounting functions, and payroll.
  • Proficient with translating complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance personnel and Board members.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a hybrid work-from-home and professional office environment.

Travel:

This position requires local travel, as well as occasional travel within the state of California.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are M-F from 9:00am- 5:00pm, with some weekend and evening hours required.
