Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at McDonough District Hospital. This role requires a skilled and compassionate RN to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care for critically ill patients.

Job Specifications
  • Education and Experience: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois and current CPR, ACLS, PALS, and CPI certification are required.
  • Job Knowledge: The RN must be knowledgeable about hospital policies and procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), universal precautions, disaster response, and product safety information.
  • Abilities, Interests, and Temperaments:
    • Verbal ability to interpret and understand instructions and communicate with other caregivers.
    • Numerical ability to accurately tally patient intake and output and ensure correct medication dosages.
    • Visual acuity to assist and monitor patients.
    • Ability to read and write for documentation on patient records.
    • Ability to adapt, follow directions, and use critical thinking skills during emergency situations.
    • Empathy and consideration to interact with patients and their family members.
    • Verbal ability to interpret and understand physician orders and communicate with other caregivers.
    • Clinical perception to monitor patients and interpret and implement physician orders.
    • Finger dexterity for handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing physical exams.

The RN will complete orientation and hospital-wide and department-specific computer-based learning (CBL) programs. They will participate in departmental in-services and demonstrate competency through service-specific competency testing and evaluation. Continuing education programs will be offered to enhance the RN's knowledge of patient care and foster a performance improvement environment.
