Job Overview

Position Title: Teacher II (Head Start/Early Head Start/GSRP)

Department: Focus: HOPE Early Learning

Reporting To: Site Leader

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Teacher II for Focus: HOPE Early Learning is tasked with the comprehensive planning, assessment, and instruction of children aged 3-5 years, tailored to meet the unique needs of each child while adhering to the standards set forth by Head Start and the GSRP grant. This role also encompasses the maintenance of program quality and documentation as specified in the GSRP Implementation Manual, Preschool Program Quality Assessment (PQA), and LARA licensing guidelines, along with any additional qualifications mandated by the respective program guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring effective coordination of services and resource sharing within the classroom.
  2. Conduct monthly safety inspections, fire drills, and safety meetings, maintaining an updated Safety Log.
  3. Investigate incidents involving children or staff, ensuring all documentation is complete and notifying the necessary authorities or supervisors.
  4. Participate in IFSP/IEP meetings as required.
  5. Design and equip indoor and outdoor learning spaces to meet developmental and safety standards while adhering to budget constraints.
  6. Ensure daily outdoor activities are sufficient and appropriate for children.
  7. Build and maintain a positive community presence, enhancing volunteer engagement and educational outreach regarding program needs.
  8. Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as health, safety, and licensing standards.
  9. Ensure adherence to quality assurance and program evaluation protocols.
  10. Regularly report to the immediate supervisor and/or Program Director on center activities and status.
  11. Maintain knowledge of and comply with the Focus: HOPE Early Learning Handbook.
  12. Plan and implement a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters kindergarten readiness skills as outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  13. Develop and execute lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities and experiential learning, considering the diverse needs and abilities of students.
  14. Collaborate with parents, administrators, specialists, and social workers to implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with varying learning abilities.
  15. Create a flexible learning environment focused on maximizing student success.
  16. Observe, assess, and report on student progress regularly.
  17. Establish effective communication with parents regarding student development.
  18. Work with appropriate personnel to develop mainstream instructional strategies.
  19. Maintain a structured classroom environment.
  20. Keep accurate attendance records.
  21. Demonstrate respect and consideration for all individuals, fostering self-esteem.
  22. Adhere to program curriculum and supplemental materials, as well as State of Michigan licensing requirements for childcare centers.
  23. Regularly observe and assess children's development, analyzing data to create tailored plans or referrals.
  24. Design daily classroom plans that encompass all aspects of the program's curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices, focusing on social-emotional, cognitive, language, literacy, and physical development.
  25. Provide daily guidance and oversight to classroom staff, volunteers, and interns through positive communication and modeling desired behaviors.
  26. Build strong relationships with families to support parent-child interactions and promote positive family activities.
  27. Assist other program service areas with direct and indirect services, providing community resources for families.
  28. Address child and family needs in collaboration with the Site Leader and/or Family Service worker.
  29. Set daily and weekly goals that promote individual and group educational plans, encouraging parental involvement.
  30. Prepare materials in advance of classroom activities to support lesson plans and curriculum.
  31. Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
  32. While fulfilling job responsibilities, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively. Occasionally, the employee may need to sit, use hands for various tasks, and may lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: An Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or a comparable qualification with training or coursework in early childhood development, particularly focused on infant and toddler development.

Recruitment Participation

All staff members are expected to engage in special community or recruitment events to ensure full enrollment in programs. Participation in mandatory events is required.

Supervision

Responsibilities are supervised by the Site Leader.
