Position Overview
We are in search of a driven Thermal Analysis Engineer to enhance our engineering initiatives in the development and commercialization of Radioisotope Power System (RPS) technologies. In this role, you will:
- Conduct thermal analyses utilizing advanced CAD/CAE software to support RPS, subcomponents, and system interfaces.
- Execute thermal analyses from initial high-level assessments to establishing criteria for validating performance through testing and qualification data.
- Apply fundamental principles to inform the design of components, subassemblies, and interfaces.
- Strive for enhancements in performance and robustness.
- Review the work of peers and vendors.
- Draft proposals, technical reports, and scholarly papers.
- Deliver results to project teams that meet quality, cost, timing, and other project specifications.
- Prepare and present findings to internal and external stakeholders, as well as at technical conferences.
- Engage with the engineering group by offering suggestions and recommendations on various thermal challenges.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years of thermal analysis experience, or an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Thermal Desktop or ANSYS Workbench is preferred.
- Experience with 3D and reduced-order thermal modeling.
- Ability to identify sizing cases and swiftly assess the impact of design choices.
- Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence/JIRA workflows.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in research and development activities related to nuclear reactors or radioisotope power systems is desirable.
- Experience with thermal analysis in space applications is advantageous.
- Experience working under an AS9100 (or similar) quality program is preferred.
- Capability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure in uncertain environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
Job Functions
- This position requires in-office presence on designated days, with remote work options available on others.
- Travel may be required, typically less than 10%.
- Physical requirements include sitting and/or standing for extended periods, bending/stooping, and fine motor control.
- Minimal physical exertion is needed, with the ability to safely lift up to 15 pounds.
- Work conditions involve standard office environments with typical working hours.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000-160,000, with final compensation determined by various factors including relevant work experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to competitive pay, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
