**Summary of Responsibilities**

As a Host at Black Bear Diner, you will be the first point of contact for our guests, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Your primary responsibility will be to provide friendly, prompt, and individualized service to ensure that all guests feel welcome and valued.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**

* Greet all arriving guests warmly and promptly, making eye contact and engaging in conversation to create a positive atmosphere.
* Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible, balancing customer flow in service stations to ensure efficient service.
* When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in party, providing guests with estimated waiting time and calling out name and number of party when tables become available.
* Upon seating, offer guests a menu, inspecting the table for proper presentation and completeness.
* Relay messages to servers as needed, maintaining a seamless communication flow.
* Maintain clean entrance, lobby, dining room, and restrooms, ensuring a clean and inviting environment for our guests.
* Assist servers in maintaining and stocking service stations, ensuring that all necessary supplies are available.
* Clean and reset tables promptly, cleaning chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet to maintain a high level of cleanliness.
* Take food and beverage orders from guests requesting take out service, entering orders in our point-of-sale system.
* Process payments correctly and efficiently, closing checks and thanking guests for their visit.
* Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned, ensuring that all necessary tasks are completed.
* Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.

**Qualifications**

* Possess verbal and language skills to understand and communicate with guests.
* Possess basic math skills, operate a point-of-sale system, and have the ability to handle money.
* Able to bend, stoop, and work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
* Able to safely lift and easily maneuver plates of food, as well as supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
* For bussing, able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
