Intermodal Operations Specialist

CSX Intermodal Terminals, Inc. (CSXIT) operates as an independent contractor, providing essential services at various facilities through partnerships with Total Distribution Services Inc. (TDSI).
As an Intermodal Operations Specialist (IOS), you will play a crucial role in the safe execution of tasks and processes that facilitate the movement of customer freight via train from origin to destination within the TDSI network. Additionally, you will ensure the availability of vehicle-handling services across the TDSI network of automobile distribution centers and storage sites.
Important Note: All candidate offers are subject to successful completion of a drug screening (including hair and urine tests) and a thorough background check. Please be aware that CSX does not recognize Medical Marijuana Cards.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include Loading, Unloading, Securement, and Inventory management, encompassing the following tasks:
- Ascend and descend rail cars safely. Operate shuttle vans to transport associates to and from railcars and loading bays.
- Inspect and document the condition of equipment and vehicles, reporting any damages before unloading.
- Operate and transfer various types of motor vehicles (both manual and automatic) on and off multi-level railcars, utilizing ladders up to 16 feet for inspections and securement.
- Manage the raising, lowering, and movement of portable bridge plates, decks, and ramps at elevated heights.
- Open and close end doors on multi-level railcars, which can weigh over 1,000 lbs.
The pay rate will increase to $28.21 per hour.
Sign-on Bonus
This position qualifies for a $2,000 sign-on bonus after completing twelve months of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a valid driver's license that meets the insurance company's requirements.
- One year of experience in a heavy industrial setting.
- One year of experience operating heavy machinery.
- Three years of experience in outdoor work environments.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to classify and track information accurately.
- Strong communication skills for providing clear instructions.
- Effective reasoning skills for problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Good verbal comprehension for understanding both general and technical communications.
- Must demonstrate auditory and visual acuity for tracking and inspection tasks.
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds overhead to install bridge plates connecting railcar decks.
- Capable of stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching in confined spaces.
- Willingness to walk the length of at least five railcars multiple times per hour during a shift.
- Ability to climb fixed ladders to reach 2nd and 3rd level decks frequently.
- Must maintain balance to safely step across openings between railcars on elevated decks.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment focused on customer service and productivity.
- This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, requiring membership.
- Internal candidates changing crafts may need to relinquish seniority in their previous craft.
- Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions and at heights.
- Completion of annual training and passing safety examinations is mandatory.
- Knowledge of FRA and AAR securement regulations and railway line clearance requirements is essential.
- Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical tests.
- Experience working in a fast-paced outdoor environment around moving equipment.
- Work hours may include nonstandard workweeks, overtime, and various shifts.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Wear the required uniform and safety gear as instructed.
