Position Overview

This role is integral to the effective functioning of the department. The individual in this capacity will be expected to undertake additional job-related responsibilities and tasks as assigned or deemed necessary. In addition to the duties outlined below, the Systems Specialist III engages in both routine and advanced technical tasks related to troubleshooting and repairing components within building automation systems, including field cabinets, sensors, and associated controls. This position operates under the guidance of a senior building automation technician and is expected to uphold all responsibilities and standards associated with lower-tier technicians. This position supports operations in Sterling, VA.

Key Responsibilities

An individual must be capable of successfully executing the essential functions of this role with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Troubleshoot and repair building automation system field cabinets, including communication devices, printed circuit boards, power supplies, and electronic controls.
  • Conduct point-to-point checks in accordance with departmental standards, utilizing tools such as multimeters to verify sensor continuity and resistance.
  • Provide mentorship to junior technicians to uphold these standards.
  • Take initiative in the checkout of end devices, module configurations, and resolving network-related issues.
  • Oversee the startup of both simple and complex automation systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Understand various protocols that may be integrated into the building automation framework.
  • Capable of making intricate programming and graphic modifications to meet specifications and sequences.
  • Communicate technical challenges to management and senior technicians effectively.
  • Maintain accurate field markups and coordinate updates from junior technicians.
  • Arrive at work punctually and prepared to undertake assigned tasks.
  • Perform essential database functions, including backups and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain company tools, testing equipment, and materials in good condition.
  • Generate comprehensive daily reports for the EMS project team and supervisor.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for junior technicians.
  • Identify opportunities to advance project progress.
  • Collaborate with job site personnel from various trades to achieve project goals.
  • Work alongside commissioning agents to demonstrate system functionality.
  • Participate in solution-oriented discussions with project stakeholders both within and outside the organization.
  • Promote employee engagement, training, and development in key areas such as safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality and safety standards, specifications, and policies, while driving continuous improvements and efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of open communication and involvement among all team members, valuing their input in enhancing performance.
  • Support a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability in employee and site safety and other business aspects.
  • Complete weekly timecards accurately and on time.
Qualifications
  • Preferred equivalent experience, vocational training, or an Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in high-availability environments such as data centers, hospitals, or government facilities is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with the Automated Logic product line and software suite is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience in writing Building Automation Systems programs and graphics for brands like Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider, etc.
  • A self-motivated individual with a curious mindset and a desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to document daily activities and prepare for assigned tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and self-initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with high-quality document and report preparation.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay rate ranges from $37/hr to $42/hr, depending on experience.
