Position Summary:
Avery Dennison is on the lookout for an Operations Manager to oversee the Coating Department within the Performance Tapes North America Operations Team. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role is pivotal in steering the coating operations to achieve safety, quality, production, and cost targets while managing daily operations effectively. You will also temporarily oversee the compounding department, ensuring that equipment, materials, and human resources are efficiently utilized for optimal departmental performance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    Lead, mentor, and develop team members, ensuring that annual objectives are set and communicated effectively. Maintain an up-to-date performance management system and provide regular feedback to staff.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    Evaluate team performance and manage improvements as necessary. Attract and retain high-potential talent while modeling the Corporation's Code of Business Ethics and Values.
  • Operational Management:
    Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols, leading a safe operational environment that complies with all legal and corporate safety standards.
  • Strategic Planning:
    Drive operational results by executing site improvement plans, setting clear priorities, and providing necessary resources to overcome challenges.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Lead projects aimed at enhancing operational performance through Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) methodologies, focusing on safety, quality, cost, and training.
  • Inventory and Distribution:
    Oversee the ordering and distribution of products and parts, ensuring timely delivery to maximize sales potential while maintaining good inventory control.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Bachelor's Degree required; Engineering degree preferred. Significant Operations Leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 7 years in chemical or solvent-based manufacturing operations, with proven experience in leading non-exempt employees.

Skills Required:

  • Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on relationship-building and effective boundary-setting.
  • Proficient in developing individuals for higher-level roles and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize complex issues and drive to resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of solvent coating operations and experience with continuous flow manufacturing.
  • Blackbelt or Greenbelt Certification is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.
