Agricultural Pest Control Specialist

Job Summary

The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Pest Control Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our pest management team, you will be responsible for leading the detection and eradication of agricultural pests in our county-wide detection project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to seasonal staff to ensure eradication projects are in compliance with Food and Agricultural Codes and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of cooperative pest detection and emergency response activities, including prioritizing work assignments for office and field personnel.
  • Train emergency project personnel on pesticide laws and regulations, including pesticide safety training, permit procedures, calibration, and application.
  • Perform field surveys, treatments, and inspections of detection projects to efficiently and quickly eradicate infestation of serious agricultural pests.
  • Perform calibration of equipment for liquid and/or granular pesticides.
  • Maintain and keep current daily records of pesticides usage on all projects.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with homeowners, growers, city, county, and federal officials.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are conducted indoors approximately 40% of the time. The work settings where the incumbent may be required to work vary, including offices, warehouses, shops, fields, and yards.

Requirements

  • SOQ - A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and interested individuals MUST submit an SOQ with their application.
  • The SOQ must describe the education, experience, skills, and qualities that make the candidate ideal for the specific Agricultural Pest Control Specialist position.
